Merseyrail Services
The Merseyrail electric rail network offers frequent and regular connections with the north and south of Merseyside on the Northern Line and with the Wirral and Chester on the Wirral Line. 

It has stations in or close to the Site at James St, Moorfields and Ranelagh Street (Central Station) as well as Lime Street Station.  For details of local train services ring 0870 6082608 or visit www.merseytravel.gov.uk. 

National Bus Services
National bus services are available through a bus station a short distance east of the site at Norton Street/Islington. For details of services ring 08705 808080 or visit   www.nationalexpress.com. 

Local Bus Services
Local services are available through main bus stations within or close to the site at Queen Square and Paradise Street, and through frequent on-street bus stops.  

A City Centre Link Bus provides a service around the city that connects most parts of the site with each other and with other parts of the City Centre including its main public transport outlets.  

Tourist buses also work a number of routes that include parts of the nominated site.     

Merseytravel produces booklets for each bus and train service in Merseyside, outlining routes and times.

Ferries
Regular ferry services are provided between Liverpool and Birkenhead and Wallasey. Ferries leaflets give details of commuter services and River Explorer Cruises as well as trips on the Manchester Ship Canal, special themed cruises and charter hire. Liverpool John Lennon Airport
Liverpool John Lennon Airport, some 10km south of the City Centre, is the UK's fastest growing airport with regular services to London, Ireland and the Isle of Man as well as budget airline services provided by Easyjet and Ryan Air to many European cities.

Taxis
Hackney Cabs
There are plenty of Hackney Cabs (or Black Cabs) operating in Liverpool, especially in the city centre. You can either hail a passing Hackney cab or you can go to one of the city centre's taxi ranks. 

The Hackney Cab ranks are located around the city, including Lime Street Station, James Street Station, Adelphi Hotel, Whitechapel, Sir Thomas Street and Chinatown.

Private Hire Taxis
A number of private hire taxi firms operate across the city. Unlike Hackney cabs, they must be pre-booked - you cannot hail and be picked up by a passing private hire taxi, as this is illegal.

Cycle Routes
There is a defined network of cycle routes in and around the City Centre, but the components are at different stages of development.  A "Millennium" cycle route alongside the River Mersey is well-defined and well-used and links the Albert Dock with the City's southern suburbs. 

A second part of the "Millennium" cycle route, linking the Albert Dock to the cathedrals, and passing through Duke Street is also complete, but others are, at present, less well established.

Motorway Links
The city has good links to the national road network, through the M62, M53 and the M58.       

Pedestrian Routes
A new signage system of finger posts, information panels and heritage plaques guide visitors around the city centre and provide information of interest.
